PSYCHOLOGICAL/NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS

Parents frequently have concerns for their children regarding:

  • Problems in school and at home
  • Trouble paying attention, listening, and following directions
  • Inability to remember rules or tasks
  • Problems getting along with other children
  • Hyperactivity, crying, aggressive or oppositional behavior
  • Trouble sleeping at night or withdrawn behavior
  • Trouble adjusting to changes, at home or at school
  • Being out of control
Evaluation provides a map of:
  • Developmental level and level of functioning
  • Biological screening for atypical immunological, neurological and toxic disorders (e.g. allergies, chemical sensitivities)
  • A typical style of processing information (gifted? divergent? nondominant culture? atypical family style?)
  • Learning disabilities, ADHD
  • Trauma and trauma syndromes
  • E motional issues and triggers maintaining internal discomfort and problem behaviors

Report includes recommendations to decrease distress and problem behaviors and increase level of functioning (with recommendations for school placement and classroom placement). Sometimes a brief trial of play therapy (for younger children) or intensive work (for teens) results in dramatic shifts and improvement in ability to function.
